About Us
The Michigan Channel is the University of Michigan’s channel devoted to intelligent talk and lifelong learning. The Michigan Channel is a forum for debate, discussion, documentaries and public affairs; its goal is to translate the fervent intellectual life of the university to viewers outside the university.
Four distinct elements comprise the channel:
- Lectures, discussions, and programs recorded on-campus, featuring University of Michigan faculty and staff, as well as visiting scholars.
- Lectures and programs produced at more than 40 universities around the country. ResearchChannel showcases some of the best thinking and research taking place within institutions like Michigan, Stanford, MIT, Johns Hopkins, Duke and the University of Washington.
- Signature series from PBS. The Michigan Channel features The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, Charlie Rose, and a selection of PBS documentaries and specials.
- An international perspective on the news. The channel offers daily newscasts live from BBC World, as well as the Peabody award-winning Mosaic, which shows how broadcasters in the Middle and Near East report important news.
Context, depth, and perspective define the Michigan Channel’s goals as it launches in 2006.
